Recently, the paper "Environmental regulation and green innovation: Evidence from China’s new environmental protection law" co-authored by Liu Yuyu and Wang Aiguo of the School of Accounting was published in the Journal of Cleaner Production in March 2021. "Journal of Cleaner Production" is an internationally renowned journal in the field of green and sustainable science and technology. It is searched by both SSCI and SCI. It is a journal of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and JCR. The latest impact factor of the journal is 7.246, and the average impact factor in the past five years is 7.491. This research was funded by Professor Wang Aiguo's National Social Science Key Project Research on Environmental Auditing in the Construction of Ecological Civilization in my country (15AGL015), the audit and supervision research on the transformation of green water and green mountains into Jinshan Yinshan (20AGL010), and Dr. Liu Yuyu's National Youth Self-science Project.

On January 1, 2015, China's new "Environmental Protection Law" (referred to as the New Environmental Protection Law) was formally implemented, and it was once known as the strictest environmental protection law in history. The new environmental protection law has significantly increased the risk and cost of corporate pollution violations by strengthening government responsibilities in environmental protection, increasing penalties for corporate environmental violations, and expanding the body of environmental public interest litigation. Based on the quasi-natural experiment of the implementation of the new environmental protection law, this study uses China's A-share listed companies in high-pollution industries as a sample to explore the impact of environmental regulation on the green innovation behavior of high-pollution companies in emerging market countries. The article's research found that after the implementation of the new environmental protection, listed companies in high-polluting industries have applied for more green patents, including utility models and invention patents. This effect is more pronounced in state-owned enterprises, but it is even weaker for enterprises whose industry competition is fierce and whose headquarters are located in cities that rely more on the secondary industry. This article provides certain policy enlightenment for emerging market countries to promote corporate environmental responsibility and achieve high-quality development.

Liu Yuyu is a PhD in auditing introduced by the School of Accounting in 2018 and is a pre-appointed associate professor. His doctoral dissertation won the 2018 Excellent Doctoral Dissertation of the National Audit Office and was funded to publish a monograph. He was awarded the 2019 National Natural Science Foundation of China Youth Project. The main research areas are auditing (mainly national auditing and social auditing) and corporate governance.
